Mornin, Nothing like saying Mornin and Posting and the whole thing disappears. Now, I gotta try and remember what the hell I wrote..Not an easy task..AH!! VODKADAY!! but it has too wait until tomorrow, Veterans Fund Raiser in The Yunk..I really don't want to celebrate anything today anyway, Tax Day. What a farce, taxing people that just barely can make ends meet, and then sending Billions overseas to help so called distraught Countries. Please, it is so sickening, I ain't saying no more, except anyone that makes under 100,000.00 in this society shouldn't worry about paying any taxes. THEY SHOULD BE EXEMPT!!!! On a lighter note the Phillies are out of the gate and running. They are lookin good here in the early going..Hope it keeps up they have the whole "City Of Brotherly Loons" rootin for them. Even if they are in Washington. I think half the fans last night were from Philly. Talkin about Philly, it seems that anywhere I have ever been in this world, when people asked me where I was from and I said Philly, the next inevitable question was. What Part?? As we all know it is a City of Neighborhoods, and the people of those neighborhoods are bound together by them..Today, for all the cry baby's that thought Parroting was too hard, let's talk about Philly. I know everyone that comes into the Ville during the course of the day isn't from Philly, but there is nothing wrong about learning about one of the greatest cities in the World.. Talk about neighborhoods or traditions or anything you like. I am going to start out with a tough one..
'MANAYUNK" Schuylkill Indian named for Place Where We Drink. I took that literally..
"Brewerytown" Someplace had to brew Schmidt's.
"Roxborough" Manayunk's sister town. Almost one and the same, what do you think..
"TastyKake" Lives too bake another day.
Lets see what ya got. Should be a good one..OWWWW!!!! Coffee on the Nuts!!! WAKE UP PLAIN!!!

Second Post, not the same as the First..
Ahm Enery the ate ah em..Enery the ate ah em ah em. Now in that song Second Verse was same as the First.
East Falls... no North, South or West Falls.
Wissahickon... named after the creek that is near for that Indian guy who has a stautue back there on the tral and I can't recall his name right now.
My Philadelphia favorite... cheesesteak (one word not two...and no place I have been in all 50 states and around the world can make them like Philly can... most in part because of Amoroso rolls... it has to be in the water.
Speaking of bread... remember Consolo's great rolls hot out of the coal fired oven... and their tomato pie. Again I have had stuff close but never exactly what they made in their Smick Street hole in the garage bakery.
Breaks over for now got yo get back to supervising the landscapers - thatching my lawn and putting down lime and having them mulch the flower beds.
Watch out for moles. They can't see you. I believe that Indian statue is of Pontiac., or Uncle John Turella..There is one of the main characters of many characters too come out of The Yunk.
"Roman Catholic High" Oldest Catholic High School in the USA.
"City Hall" with William The Quaker Penn, sitting on top, and if you come down the Parkway East from the Art Museum and look up, it looks like he has his dick out..I being the Simpleton, that I am, have to show all my visitors that sight. Most of them just sit there staring in amazement..
Morning fellow Philadelphians and all other visitors to Plain & Simple.
Pat, the Indian statue is Chief Teedyuscung of the Lenape (Delaware Nation) tribe. Many a Saturday was spent "back the crick" visiting Hermit's Cave, Lover's Leap, the Stepping Stones, Devil's Pool, the Teedyuscung statue, and, of course, Valley Green. As for Consolo's Bakery, it was the best. We now have a very similar and very popular Italian bakery known as Marchiano's. People come from all over the Delaware Valley to buy their delicious breads, tomato pie, etc. There are now Condos built on the site of the Smick St. garage in a hole bakery. The Yunk is constantly changing.

Have a great Friday all!
Ahhhhhh Something easy. Good job Simple. But we did learn about about Parrots, as much use as Trigonometry, but you never know when a Parrot will land on your shoulder at least we have a shelter to take them to.
We cannot leave out the Kendrick Rec, the Bathie, Pretzel Park, Gorgas Park, WALNUT PLAIN GOLF CLUB, Grace Kelly's abode, Germany Hill, The Umbria ST. Dump, Mickey Mouse Cave, Chicks Drug Store, Strues's Lumber Yard, Javies Beer Dist., the First 7/11 at Ridge and Lawton, Frank Rizzo's house on Summit or Shawmont then bought by Pearlman, Plains Ball Field now. God we can cover a lot area withthis one, and all good memories. Nice idea for a Vodkay Day to startt he weekend. Go get em.
How about "The Declaration Of Independence." Tommy J. wrote that baby at 6th and Arch..That was right after he gave Maisey his house slave a shot out in the wood shed..Tommy was on horny revolutionary..
Thanks for the Indians name... I now remember the story. I fished and frogged along the creek from the falls all the way up to Bells Mill Road... the upper part used to be well stocked by the state with nice brrok and brown trout.
Anyone recall Dago Louie's Field (not PC today) on Henry Avenue. I think St. Lucy's used to hold their 4th July picnic there while St. John's was down at Henry and Roxborough Ave.
Anyone remember the tin cups on 4th July on a red/white/blue ribbon so we could get drinking water from a city water truck???
I go to Marchiano's on visits home... it is OK but not Consolo's on bread or tomato pie. I always bring back a couple of "Oreganatas"... as a taste of some home memories of great sandwiches... wife makes prosiutto/capacola/cheese/salami sandwiches on them heated warm in the oven. Sandwich rolls up here in New England basically suck... closest thing we can get to our liking of a good roll is the fresh bakery ones from Sam's Club.
Me and Plain played football for the Green Valley Chargers, our home field, was Dago Louie's. Of course being half Italian, I wasn't allowed to call it that. So I just called it Louie's or Italian Louie's when my Mom was around..lol..

"Dick Cranes" Allegheny Ave. used to ride into bars on his horse. Bought a lot of clothes there in the 50's and 60's still have most of them.. This Parrot shit is hard to get off..
Little known fact Dick Crane was going to call his store Dick Parrot., but his last name was Crane so he used that bird instead.. FYI.. rub, rub, scrub, rub, more water, rub, more soap, rub. What do these fuckers eat????
It used to be called the Charollett Inn Jimmy Mc
Pat, the politically incorrect field, Dago Louie's, is now The Louis Pachella Field. Everybody still calls it Dago Louie's. I also remember the tin cups with the red, white and blue ribbons that we wore around our necks on the 4th of July. The purpose of the cups was that we could get water from the water trucks that used to be parked at the St. John's grounds at the end of Roxborough Ave before they extended Henry Avenue. I put away a box of memories for my kids and I included their tin cups. Keep the memories coming. They provide this old broad with many smiles.
It is a lil known fact simple that Parrot's love to eat Keets this is what Guinea Hens call there lil ones Parrot's love the egg keets and the keets themselve. This is where the Name Parrot Keets come from blows on my fingers and rubs my chest......oh come on ya don't have to thank me.......oh stop now !!! I'm gettin a lil embarrassed

It was Dick Crean's not Cranes... I know because this past Christmas my wife once again pointed out we still have this wood nativity creche with Mary, Joe and the kid and two animals with a sticker on the bottom for $1.99 from Dick Crean's... we bought for our first Christmas in 1965.

Remember the aquarium under the art museum... remember when they had Aquarama on South Broad Street down next to Philadelphia Stadium (later JFK) where I sold programs for the Army Navy game one year.
One other unique thing to Philadelphia was the "produce Huksters"... selling veggies from the back of a truck they drove around to the neighborhoods. Remember the guy who used to walk the streets and sharpen your Mom's knives... he carried his sharpening wheel and stool on his back.
And Strebor I find it amazing you and your classmates still get together once a week and so many of them. What amazes me is I don't know that many people that Graduated. Everybody always says to us Guys you all still hangout together thats unreal.......looks around shhhhhhhhh lil do they know we are the only ones that can stand each other.....nods... I think Babe has another friend he always says that but we never saw him.....it's like my other friend.....we go like yea right !
Damn Plain, you really got around in your day. Never heard of the Charollette Inn. Used to go there every Sunday when it was the Pub. Glad to have your plethera of knowledge in the Ville. We shall make you the Librarian and Historian......with Simple as your Right Hand Man. Ok Simple you are also a font of information. You two are synergistic when it comes to running our Ville. The ville is in good hands. Please don't raise the taxes to pay for the menagerie that is being amassed. Good thing we are a no kill Ville.
Strebor... as town historian... there was a family at St. John's who had 12 kids (or more) father was a fireman- sure one of the girls was ahead of us. I worked at the A & P in high school and they used to come in every two weeks and buy 4 carts of groceries... spending $100.00... today that won't get you 4 bags but you always wanted them in your line because it took 15 to 20 minutes to check them out... as you had to manually punch in prices and manually figure out the change... kids today are lost if you give them the pennies after they enter the amount... their brains cease to function if it is different than what is on the screen. I just remebered this as you listed some of those Irish names...
Plain, oh great Lama Munker Jedi Knight, we meet once a month not once a week. We would be really sick of each other by now if it was once a week. Pat, I'm remembering everything you talk about. J. McC I just got my copy of the St. John's Alumni/ae Newletter and there are some pictures of your Mom & Dad in there. One is of your Dad on the Boardwalk with 4 of his buddies in 1936, and the other one is your Mom & Dad with two other couples at a Honeymoon Dinner in 1944. Great pictures!!!
Anonymous is Correct It was the Charbert Innn I did Know Johnny vac owed the East End pup so I stand cor corr correc I mmmmmm I was ......stand corrected whew there I said it Thanks Anon.
Strebor, thanks. I think I saw those Pics. My Dad was with the McFarlands and the Swiders. They both go to the reunions when they come up. Thank God they are still going. 92 and 90 and usually at Keenans on Sat night after mass. My Dad just signed a 5 year lease for his new Caddy.. Now that is optimistic.........
WOW!! Jim, I have run into your Mom and Dad at Keenans a few times. They usually run away, pretty fast for being in their 90's. I'll tell you what, God Bless him, if he wants a Caddy go for it. I know my man must be thinkin, who cares about five more years.. Ninety damn, they might know that Charlie Chaplin guy, he's a 122 today..

Hey Pat, that could have been the Wynne's John and Patrick were in our class. It could have been the Swortley's or the Byer's there were a few thousand of them runnin around!!
Hey my sign in word is mentin. Did I mentin I have parrot shit on my head??
Simple... In Machu Picchu inscribed on the walls of an old Incan temple I have seen hyrogliphs on how to clean parrot shit out of your hair. If I remember correctly, you first need to find two virgins... uh oh... forget it, you really are in deep shit... literally.
God Bless the McCool's. I hope they get to travel in their Caddy for many moons to come. Pat, there were a lot of very large families in St. J's. There was the Quinn family on Rox. Ave. that had about 12 kids but I don't know if their Dad was a fireman. I don't remember how many Wynne's there were but there were quite a few. Most of the girls in my class came from families of just 2 kids; I think there may have been two or three that had maybe 5 or 6 in their family; the Farleys, the Rodgers (I think Richard Rodgers was in your class; his sister Peggy was in mine), and the Hockmeiers. UH Simple, The Swortleys and Biers were publics. And, Simple you need to get rid of those animals and please before you head for the Yunk tomorrow get rid of the shit on your head. I don't want to give anyone a reason to call you a shithead, but then again I guess they don't really need a reason. Love ya Bro!
Two Virgins, hmmm. Charlies tour is in Atlantic City. Nah!! ain't gonna find them there.. I'll just keep a rubbin and scrubbin!!!

Yo.. the Mummers. String bands.
Not just a Philly thing... but the Hot Shoppe had the best onion rings ever. I was a fast foodie freak... roast beef or pork sandwiches- never the tripe at Willy's at 9th and Moyamensing... window service only. The Mamajamma... cheesesteak with chili meat - some place owned by a big black guy out in West Philadelphia, was there only a few times... remember the sandwich not the name of the shop.
The "Custard" stand on the Ridge at ???(used to be a field behind it - homes now for 50 years I think it was called Blue Bell) in the 50's the custard stand had an underground bomb shelter on display there in the back corner.
The Northern Home for Boys... my Mom once threatened to put me in there because I did something horrific in her eyes.
Wise potato chips out of a 5 gallon can and into a paper bag sold by the pound... Bachmann penny pretzel sticks also sold individually from a 5 gallon can. Machine gun belt candy dots on paper sold at the corner store... got as much paper as you got dot.
Mc Cool... parents in their 90's God Bless them and my best wishes for their continued great health... I hope they break the century mark.
Hey Pat, Me and Plain were at the Mummers Museum last Friday, that is where another adventure started.
How about these Philly Institutions.
The A's
The Phillies
The Flyers
The Warriors
The Seventy Sixers
The Flyers
The Green Valley Chargers
The Manayunk Mugwumps

I said the Flyers twice because of Greeny and Sammy..
Not, really I just fucked up.
Thanks all for the good wishes for my parents.
Simple you can't find two virgins in the Pines. How about that Goat Bar. Or somewhere they must have a couple tied up in the shed.
Pat, the Northern Home was for both boys and girls. We had twin girls from there in our class until junior year in High School. I remember spending a day there with them once and I thought it was so cool that there were 6 girls in each room. Little did I know how lucky I was to have a home with loving parents and a pesty, yet lovable, little bro.

Anybody say:
"The Liberty Bell"
Well ring my chimes, I got the shit out of my head. I am no longer a head of shit. Just a shit head.. I love that saying. I am going to have to analyze that in a future post. Shite head, what a ring that has to it. Much like a bell...Shit head. Just roll that off your tongue. Hey, shit head..Neat...Hey you, shit head..I actually make myself laugh sometimes. I know not a whole lot of people can stand me, but I love me..
Well a VODKADAY without VODKA. Makes no sense. Just like most of the shenanighans around here. I will make up for that mishap tomorrow.. Let's see we had a tour of the neighborhoods of Old Philadelphia, and some new Philadelphia.
"Citizens Bank Park"
"Lincoln Financial Field"
"All the New Casinos.
There some old some new..We have reached another milestone ove 3500 hits. Watch out Ty and Pete. We will end our second month tomorrow. I guess that is not bad. Like I said I don't really know, nor care.. There is a new bird in the Ville his stories should be good. He is nesting Sammy is resting, and as for the rest of us. Philly town is going dark and so is the Ville. Streets are empty, see ya in the morning..
Stay out of harms way my friends. TAPS...
