"Today Is The 26th Day Of May In The Year Of Our Lord 2011."

Mornin, Don't know what happened with the Phils last night as I went out with them in about the 16th inning. That was like a twi light double header, remember those things. PHEW!! got in a lot of trouble at every one I ever went too..Well the Ville Train is steaming towards Memorial Day Weekend.  We will have more on that later.. We all know that weekend is the official start of summer. Ah why not now, why wait.  He who hesitates is lost.. I must have hesitated a lot in my life.
Everyone should really just take a deep breath on Memorial Day or even on one of the days over the long weekend, while they are out celebrating with BB'Qs and beach parties and get togethers at their homes.  Whatever way they are celebrating, it is fine, but if they would just take a moment to stop and think what they are celebrating.  Just think for a moment of the men and women that have given their lives in the service of our country That is the ultimate sacrifice. I often think of the guys I served with and the guys I knew, that lost their lives.., and if everyone one would just take a moment, and just say thanks, or stop at any war memorial on their trip to the shore or other places, not long, just to say thanks, or watch a parade for a little while or say a prayer that our military men and women overseas stay safe.. That is all any Veteran I ever knew would want, then go do whatever you want. I know they wouldn't want anymore than that, and the Veterans I know and knew would be the first ones to tell somebody to go celebrate, in fact they would be right there with you..Just give them a thought and a little thank you sometime this weekend. Believe me it will make you feel better also..I was going to do a Post about Memorial Day a little closer to the weekend but why not now.. I believe a lot of people will start their celebrations a little early.. Nothing wrong with that, go enjoy. Just try and remember for a moment what the day means.. Thank You.
Today on Plain and Simple let's go ahead with the start of summer, I may be jumping the gun,  PUT THE GUN DOWN BLAT!!!! damn this language is fucked up.. well it may be a day early but so what, no rules.  Remember summer when you were younger the things you did, it was like getting paroled.. It was the greatest time for a kid ever invented.. Some of the greatest memories of my childhood were those days of summer, running the hills of the Yunk, playing baseball, in whatever form all day, and into the night. Get older and it was up the Rec.. Then the real Ville, Down the Shore, man those were the days my friends we thought they would never end. To all our young visitors, make sure you enjoy every minute you can, believe me it will be a memory in what seems a very short time.. Give me your thoughts and some adventures that you may have had during summer vacations or parties or whatever.. Talk too you soon...

Good Day P & S Ville. A shout out to all US veterans and current military. I thank you very much and will never forget the real reason for the celebration of Memorial Day. God Bless you all!

Bro, do you remember the family Memorial Day picnics? We started out by going to Lakeview somewhere up in Montgomery County; then moved on to West Point Park. Neither of these parks exist any more. They started when I was in my teens and continued on until my kids were nearing their teens. Our Italian Aunt Concetta (one of the most wonderful people that ever graced this earth)was the original organizer and they are days that I will always remember with a special happiness. Summertime is and always will be my favorite time of the year. And, yes it stems from getting out of school for the summer. Oh happy days! I feel sorry for the kids of the present. They are all so caught up in the technical age and will never realize the fun that can be had without the tech stuff. I couldn't wait to get out in the morning and dreaded when I got called in at night. As you said, those were the days. Speaking of days, you all have a good one!
Yo Plain, congrats to you and your team!

Outta St. John The Baptist Parochial Prison for Boys. Out, Out, oh WOW!! that was one happy day.. Summer seemed to last forever then.. New Sneakers, runnin down a hill so steep so fast you couldn't stop unless somebody grabbed you or you grabbed a pole. wire ball, half ball, wall ball, dodge ball, baseball, horseshoe, kick the wickie, rides on the whip that a guy had on the back of his truck.. Leave in the morning, and be back at 9 at night, always somebody on the corner to hang with, they were probably the best years of our lives.. It is def. different now, but such is life..Those teenage years weren't so bad either. Of course, the parents would disagree with that one..

Walking up the Ridge to Woolworths to buy many rolls of Red, White and Blue crepe paper and a scoop of MM'S to walk with. Decorate the bike and put the clothespins and baseball cards on the wheels. Meet at Manayunk and Lyceum for the parade. I led the Dutch Helwig Marines, in full dress, my Uncle Jim Feeny was the leader while I criss crossed with other bikers in front of them all the way to Plains baseball field and looked for someone selling firecrackers. Penny candy and all that good stuff......

Or, spending your allotted time at the Bathie and beating your suit dry on the cement trying to sneak back in for another seesion. They used to feel your suit wrapped up in your wet towel. If it was dry you were in.

God Simple you were right so many things to remember. Hell did we even have color TV then? It had to be either Admiral or RCA with tin foil rabbit ears or Dad on the roof......how about now....no Dad move it some more.LOL

Marone's water ice truck and soft pretzels. Jim the huckster always giving you a free plum. Or Maxie the tailor would clean and alter all you clothes and drop them off. The coal truck especially on Gerhart St. The Rafters and the Riviessos, the Gentiles, George the Butcher form Monastery Ave. Thats enough for now. Toooooooo many. But as always a lot of fun.
And can't forget Burgerville and Coffee Shop Lover........
