Almost forgot Hoppy... he rode Topper.
As a Wisahickon Street kid I was a big TV cowboy fan... my aunt bought me a double hoslter set of Mattel Fanner 50 pistols and litte belt buckle derringer that fired Greenie Stick 'Em caps. I also had a Chuck Connors Rifleman rifle...
Remember Steve Mc Queen as Josh Randall in Wanted Dead or Alive and the "Mares Laig" gun he had strapped to his leg... Rossi Firearms just reproduced it in 4 different calibers... I got one on order. Still a cowboy fan.

This one is for Pat McHugh.
Johnny Yuma was a rebel he roamed through the west, now Johnny Yuma the rebel, he wandered alone. Well he packed no star but he wandered far where the only law was a hook and the draw, the rebel, away Johnny Yuma .. Away rode the rebel.
Ha!!!!

PatMc said...

Nick Adams played the role of Johnny Yuma and Johnny Cash sung the theme song. Here are a few more I remember
Cheyenne - Clint Walker
Bronco - Ty Hardin
Maverick- Jim Garner - Jack Kelley and Roger Moore.
Does "Spin and Marty" count as a Western???:)

Simple said...

Spin and Marty count.., then again anything counts around here.
I keep reading today's Title, I know Plain did somethin wrong, but I cannnnnnn'tttt put my finger on it...................... There it is he put all kinds of quotation marks in the front and back. Plain you ain't slick enough to get by my Simple ass, so quit tryin...

Cheyenne, Cheyenne, where will you be travelin tonite, lonely man Cheyenne will your heart stay free tonite, and when you will settle down where will it be Cheyenne...

Bronco, Bronco tearin across the Texas PLAIN, Bronco Bronco, Bronco Lane, down around the old panhandle Texas is where he grew to fame, there ain't a horse that he can't handle that's how he got his name. Bronco Bronco, Bronco Lane.

Riverboat ring your bell, fare ye well Annabelle. Luck is the lady that he loves the best, Natches to New Orleans, livin on Jacks and Queens, Maverick is a legend of the West...
Simple is on his game today baby..

PatMc said...

Simple you are the Singin' Sensation of TV themes...I remember Spin and Marty fondly because it more clearly showed Annette growing up "and out".. which was harder to see when she had that sweatshirt and ears on.

Know you know thi sone...Born on a mountain top in Tennessee. Greenest state in the land of the free. Raised in the woods so he knew every tree, killed him a "bar" when he was only three. Davy, Davy Crockett King of the Wild Frontier.

Fought single handed through the Injun war, till the Creek's was whipped and peace was restored.
And while he handed this risky chore, made himself a legend, forever more. Davy, Davy Crockett the man who don't know fear.

Simple said...

He went off to Congress and he served a spell fixin up the government and laws as well he took over Washington so I here tell, and he patched up the crack in the Liberty Bell, Davey Davey Crocket King of The Wild Frontier.

When he lost his love his grief was tall and in his heart he wanted to leave it all and lose himself in the forrest tall but he answered instead his countrys call. Davey Davey Crockett King of The Wild Frontier.

He heard of Houston and Austin and so to the Texas PLAINS he just had to go where freedom was a fightin another foe, he fought and died at The Alamo. Davey Davey Crockett King of The Wild Frontier.

His land is biggest and his land is best from the oceans roar to the mountains crest, he's ahead of us all a leadin the test and followin his legend right into the west. Davey Davey Crockett. King Of The Wild Frontier.

There it is Pat, ya hadda get me started. Sometimes I don't know how I know it....

Loved the cowboy trivia. Loved the old westerns. When I was about 5 years old my Dad and my Godmother took me to see Roy Rogers and Trigger in person at the Arena (46th & Market). I actually got a chance to pet Trigger. Loved Steve McQueen in Wanted Dead or Alive and loved him in everything else he starred in. I don't think anyone mentioned Palladin (Palladin, Palladin the name of a man. a man with honor in a savage land): that's all I know). Simple knows the rest. Another good one was Wagon Train. If you watch the re-runs of Wagon Train you see so many actors/actresses that were just starting out. Simple does a bang-up medley of all the old cowboy songs. Here are a few more Red Ryder and Thunder and Red's sidekick Little Beaver and his horse Papoose. And, then there was Rowdy Yates (Clint Eastwood) in Rawhide and his horse Midnight. The Rifleman, but I don't know his horse's name. I think all the others have been mentioned. Bring back some cowboy movies and TV shows, I'm tired of cops, etc. Pat McH loved your trivia about Trigger!

Simple said...

Hey Plain there were many a night when you and I sang Farewell To The Mountains, and yes they sang it at the Alamo, Jim Bowie was also there.., and yes Santa Anna, said: Why dey fockin seengin mon, don dey know, dat domorroooww dere be no qwater. Yeah they knew it you fuck, what the hell it was 4000too 200. You sure did run into a storm though, bought Houston and the boys enough, time too get their shit together and come kick your ass back across the Rio Grande.
REMEMBER THE ALAMO!!!!

PatMc said...

Holy Crap... I liked Davy Crockett and remember a whole hell of a lot of things...but to know and remember the whole damn song... you are freaking weird.

Gen. Custer's horse's name draws a blank. The horse who supposedly was the only survivor of Little Big Horn was named Commanche. The Injuns did not take him because he was arrow shot, they left him to die. He is stuffed and on display at Fort Riley Kansas... something I also saw in another past life.

Simple said...

I ain't weird Pat, just Simple.
For Stebor:
Have gun will travel reads the card of a man, a knight without armor in a savage land, his fast gun for hire meets the callin wind, a soldier of fortune is the man called, Palladin, Palladin Palldin where do you roam, Palladin Palladin far far from home..

plain said...

I do belive the Only one missed Is Penny who belonged to Surgarfoot

plain said...

Opppps Tony the wonder Horse belonged to Tom Mix who rode 400 miles and hour at mach speed and fought 5 guys even faster and his hat never came off.

Strebor said...

Simple, thank you for the words to Palladin. We will have to get the P & S followers together someday so you can do your thing with the songs. They will love it!

PatMc said...

The Arena... I remember seeing a Philadelphia Warriors game there... with Chamberlain. If I recall the Bandstand set at WFIL was also a part of that building or close... I remember Bob Horn before Dick Clark...
Anyone remember the local TV show "Big Top" with Ed Mc Mahon as the ringmaster... I was at a taping. Also locally I remember Chief Halftown and Sally Starr.

Strebor said...

Pat, went to Bandstand twice while Bob Horn was the emcee. Also went to the Big Top with Ed McMahon when it was broadcasted live. I think everyone that was raised in Philly around the same time as us will remember Chief Halftown (Ogi Ogi ya na hay, ya na hay) and Sally Starr. Great memories! Keep them coming!

That's right kids the star of the show Howday himself, howdy doddy Howdy..., and Simple is proud to say that I once got smashed with Our Gal Sal. at the Flyin W, Ranch. Myself, Sal and one Jack Renshaw ah those were the days my friends....

PatMc said...

Plain how could you forget Flubadub... anyone remember Kukla, Fran and Ollie. How about Top Gigio, that mouse puppet that was on Ed Sullivan... I never got it but my Dad would laugh his ass off at those skits. I tell my grandkids we had three TV channels and they smirk... lik eyeah in the dinosaur days. They stopped broadcast at 11:30 - started up at 7:00 AM... remember the Indian wearing a war bonnet test pattern. I further made my grandkids laugh when I told them we all had remote TV's... we were had verbal command remotes... my Dad would say change the channel and I had to get up and spin the dial.. and I realy made the kids laugh when I talk about tin foil on the rabbit ears.

plain said...

All true Pat I rember everyone of them and I guess we all went thru the same thing with the changing channels.
And yeah Simple Our Gal Sally used to throw down with the best of them. How about Rowland and his wife My Dear......he used to sign off saying "Goodnite everybody whatever you are"

Simple said...

Remember everything you just said Pat, along with Gillete Cavalcade of Sports and Friday Night Fights are on the Air.
Too Look Sharp and too Fell Sharp too there's a razor that was built for you... Yeah Man.
You know I cannot do this without doing due justice too one Wyatt Earp.
Wyatt Earp, Wyatt Earp brave courageous and bold. Long live his fame and long live his glory and long may his story be told. He cleaned up the country the old wildwest country he made law and order prevail, and none can deny it the legend of Wyatt forever will live on the trail. And one for his buddy..
He wore a cane and derby hat. They called him Bat. Bat Masterson. I think that may about cover them all. If not give me a call.

Simple said...

Plain, loved Roland. Remember when Frankenstein would be walkin about 1 mile an hour and catch somebody, and Roland would be looking from behind the tree. Why did Dr. Frankenstein put a sport coat on Frank, and if he was going to put a sports coat on a monster, why didn't he get him one that fit..Cheap Fuck!!!!

Hey Pat Dr. Shock was from Philly, he was around later than Roland. In fact he was from Manayunk. We all kinda knew him, Zolwicky or somethin like that. Plain might know. He had a restaurant at Fountain and Umbria called Dr. Z's.
Remember that Mummy he had the bandages hanin off of him, and had the one arm stickin out and he drug his leg like somebody that just got kicked by Francis the Talkin Mule. Yet he caught every victim he went after. Don't get it, he was the slowest monster next to Frank, how come those stupid villagers never got away?? Now that werewolf he was different that hairy fucker was fast, he scared the shit out of people..I remember he bit Roland on his bony ass, and Roland drove the stake right thru My Dears heart..

Simple said...

Plain, it was Dr. Shock that hung around with us, Jimmy Parella was on his show a few times. Roland was that John Zacherly guy, he was on TV when we were in grade school.

Well on that ghoulish note. I guess it is time to wrap up another day here at Plain and Simpleville. It is a kinda special day, because it has been a month since we built this place. Man, it would be hard to recap today, let alone a month. All this started because Plain and Simple were wearing out their welcome on Facebook and were told by a General too take their show on the road. So, a month ago, I talked to Plain and the first chance I got I talked to my computer guy and before you could say WHERE THE FUCK IS THE GENERAL AND McCOOL!! Plain and Simpleville was built. It has been a strange trip, today was hysterical with the old cowboys and songs. We are receiving roughly 80 hits a day. I hope everyone that is tuning in is enjoying this as much as us. I knew Plain and Simple would enjoy it, I just thought we would be alone..Not the case, and that is a good thing. Like BAC SL alias McCool and Carol said it takes away from all the bullshit of the real life, and as Plain said if there is one person out there that maybe in some way is incapacitated and we can bring a smile too their face, it is all worth it. I don't know how long we will carry on, I don't see any stopping us now. So, keep on keepin on. Checkin out the old home town on a Saturday nite, gettin kinda laid back in old Plain and Simpleville. Had a great time today and everyday. Good job Plain, you are the man.. Stay out of harms way my friends. TAPS
