"Today Is The 24th Day Of March In The Year Of Our Lord 2011."
Mornin, Wow, today is what March is all about Madness, I heard it was 70 some degrees up here, last week, ain't that today. That crazy ass basketball tournament kicks back in Thursday. I don't think anybody can really call a shot there, and March, Marches on. Here at Plain and Simple, things were really out of hand yesterday. Plain was huntin the Jersey Devil with a squirrel. I was dancin around in some kilt in some far away city, and havin a wee bit too much too drink.. Do you people realize that we are adults. There are a lot of other people that mosey on into this ville and read these posts and comments, what can they be thinkin. I mean to tell you there is a lot of truth in our legends, we all know McCool is a champion sky diver. and McHugh is a chanpion turkey hunter and I am a champion jigger, and Plain is just Plain nuts.., but other people don't know our various talents and too what degree we use them.. Let me think for a minute...................... I guess in essence we don't care, bring the true with the legend and let the stories and sorties fall where they may.. Laugh it up and down..WAKE UP PLAIN!!!! I want us all to have a ball. So whatever we are doin keep doin. What the hell it is Madness Month.. Let the Madness continue..See if you can name one or two people with anything to do with water in their names. Get thinkin a little. I still ain't totally with it, must be gettin a wee bit old. Oh yeah, and if Plain saw that old Jersey Devil him and Sammy would have both shit themselves runnin for their dirt bikes!!! I know Plain he will be huntin again. Keep it comin... I am thinkin for one of my people like a River Phoenix, or Bob Waterfield... Let's have some fun. Anybody lookin in, sign in got a good Phillies story comin..

Remember going to my first Phiily game at Connie Mack. I think it was $.35 or &.50 for grand stand, but the thing I can't remember is how the hell I got there from Roxborough. I remember a trolly and a bus. Don't know where I got it. Help...how did we get there from Rox. I guess the long term memory goes first............ How f..... up am I..LOL
To get to Connie Mack stadium you took the African Queen (61 trolley) down Ridge Ave to Leihigh and the 23 out Leihigh to 21st St
I Rember General Admission tickets .50 Jim ad we used to walk or thumb it down Henry Ave.
1 Brooke Shield
2 Brooke Burke
Or you could have taken the R bus to Wayne Ave the 53 Trolley to Lehigh or the Subway to Lehigh and Broad then walk or tak a Bus to 21st
Jim, if I remember correctly you used to sky dive onto the pitchers mound. I remember the bus to Lehigh, and then the trolley. I used to work at the Minute Man at Broad and Lehigh. Pass the stadium every day,too and from work on a trolley. The 23 sounds like the number..
Here is one for you guys. My first game was an A's game, not the Phillies. My Dad, liked the A's, and I remember one guy Gus Zernial. I had to be 5-6-7. Somewhere in that age range. Hell I remember Sister Irene Joseph 1952 I guess I haven't burnt all of those brain cells yet. Give me a chance I am tryin..
The 61 trolley ran along Main Street on to the Ridge right above the falls at the MAB paint quosent hut and on down past Gustine Lake (Congo River) and then past the "Plasticville" projects in East Falls to connect with the 23 trolley on Lehiegh Ave... do well remember the grime laden entry area with the painted signs and the odiferous pee troughs in the bathrooms of "Shibe Park" as my Dad called it.
Yep Shibe Park, or Connie Mack, I was never sure what the real name was.
Danny Oceans....
Bill White First baseman for the A's Bobby Shantz, Eddie Joost, Elmer Valo, Walley Moses...... Pumps my arm yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh oppps did it again think they will take me off the Ballot ?

Plain you got my girl Brooke Burke so I'll use yours Barbara Walters. In New England it is Waters.........Use your imagination
Bill White, first base for the A's in Philly?? Really Plain?? I don't know about that one. The other ones look good. How about the older A's, you know. Jimmy Foxx, and Mickey Cochrane and Lefty Grove some of the best players of all time.. Hey Plain, I don't know if you can handle this, what with hunting the Jersey Devil, takin care of Sammy, figuring out the logistics to and from Connie Mack, golfin and runnin for office, coachin and whatever else you do in your idle time. Tonight could you find time to blow taps, and also tomorrow morning, throw one of your great posts out there, as I am going to be incapcitated again. Do you think you can handle that assignment Plain. If it is too much for a Plain Brain let me know.. We will get a guest poster. (McCool comes to mind)..

OK you guys went with the "A's", I'm going with the Whiz Kids. Went to my first game ever in 1950 the year of the Whiz Kids. My uncle took me; he was the best Phillie fan ever. Took all of us once we showed an interest in baseball. Robin Roberts, Curt Simmons, Whitey Ashburn, Del Ennis, Andy Seminick, Eddie Waitkus. It was originally Shibe Park changed to Connie Mack Stadium sometime in the 50's, I think. Also saw my first Eagles game in Shibe Park. They played the Baltimore Colts and lost. Relatives from Baltimore were also at the game. Hey Earman where are you. Brings back a lot of good memories. Water names - Joe Niagara, DJ at WIBG, the best station on radio back in the 50's & 60's, Curt Flood.
Great names Pat,You too Strebor Joe Niagara now theres a man with a face made for Raido.
Don Hudson
I remember Joe Niagara and also Hy Lit... at WIBG 590(?). The studio was on Ridge Pike above Marble Hall (no blacks allowed) next to the Valley Green Country Club (no Christians allowed) and down the street from the Wagon Wheel Smorgasbord Restaurant. I think I have an album in the attic that was a compilation of a 1957 broadcast with commercials and all. I got to go look and see if I still have it and then find someone who can mp3 it... if I have it and can find it and if I can dupe it I will share it.
