CONGRATULATIONS TO CHARLIE MANUEL, ALL TIME WINNING-EST MANAGER IN THE HISTORY OF THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES!!!
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE PHANS, THAT SET A ALL TIME RECORD FOR ATTENDANCE, AND SELLOUTS IN PHILLIES HISTORY!!!
OK, on too the playoffs. I know there are people in Philly right now, saying, "oh no the Cardinals." What you have to understand is, it doesn't matter who it is, you have to beat that team. If it were the Brewers, some people would be saying, oh no, Prince and Ryan.. It doesn't matter. This is who they have to play and this is who they will beat. ST. Louis isn't my first choice, but I don't have a choice..Soooo, go out and play like The Phillies will play and they will beat St. Louis and anybody else they have too play to win The 2011 World Fucking Championship.. Really looking forward to the playoffs, and my trip to Naples Italy, I hope they have somewhere where we can watch baseball..
I really can't believe 162 games went by, seems like we were just in Spring Training.. Man the Summer and Baseball went fast this year..They say when you get older time goes faster. What the fuck when your 90, I guess most people get out of bed, look in the mirror, give a shit and go back to bed, and say, WOW!! that day went fast..
The Mexican Crew that worked with me early in the week, were actually talking about the American Civil War. If you have any stories or favorite people from that era bring it, share it, and I hope everybody can enjoy the day here at Plain and Simple..
My earliest recollections of The American Civil War, were about 7th grade. My Dad, was reading a book titled Andersonville, and he told me about the conditions of squalor that these soldiers (Northern POW'S) had too live in. When, he got done with the book, I started too read it. I didn't finish it until later in life, but it must have put an imprint on my mind that remains too this day, as the Civil War piqued my interest as a child, it still does today..
I would just like to put my thoughts on the beginnings, if you look at the two sectors of our country North and South, and if you analyze both societies from an 1800's viewpoint, you can see that they really were two separate countries.. Their ideologies, their economies, their cultures, were all at odds.
The Southern States, economy was based on an agricultural hierarchy, and fueled by slavery..The States were fiercely skeptical not only of Washington as their Capitol, but the Northern States in general.. The South did not share the wealth, as the slaves were not paid in wages, but only with room and board. Their main importing and exporting terminals were on the Gulf of Mexico and more so The Mississippi River..They loved this culture, and The Plantation owners looked at themselves as Royalty, and controlled much of the land and money..
The North on the other hand was in the midst of industrialization, factories and big cities had begun to dot the landscape, immigrants were starting too arrive. Cities like New York and Philadelphia, were booming metropolis's. Most in the North resented slavery, and most wanted the centralized government based in Washington D. C. Their major ports were the Delaware River, New York Harbor, and Boston's booming whaling and fishing industries..
I just wanted to set the stage a little bit to show how different these two sectors of one country were, and there is much more.., another time maybe..If these two cultures were on different continents, maybe nothing would have happened, but they weren't. The reality is they were right next door too each other, and as the animosity grew in heated exchanges by the various representatives in Congress, it filtered on down to the general population, so that people in the North and South that knew nothing about the cultural conflicts, were led to hate each other. Hate is a strong word here, but it fits. I honestly believe that once the blood started too flow these two armies had nothing but mutual respect and admiration for the valor and honor that their respective enemies showed in the tumult of battle..
Lastly I would like too say that, most people believe that slavery was the main issue that caused this horrible war, but in essence, there were many more issues than slavery. I am not contesting the fact that slavery was one of the issues, but states rights were far and above the slavery issue.., once Washington wielded its power in the South, the States rose up too say that it was state law first, not federal.., and if Washington would have conceded this power of states rights, there would have been no slavery issue, because the Southern States would have made it legal.. A clash of cultures for sure and a million Americans died...Quite staggering, and that number is probably low.. Let's here it guys.. Because this war had a huge say in forming the country we now live in...

Gettysburg, Antietam, Shiloh, Bull Run or Manassas, Fredricksburg, etc., etc. etc.
Books: Andersonville, Gone With The Wind (book much better than the movie), North & South
Ken Burn's PBS series is remarkable.
The Civil War is an ugly sore spot in American History. It pitted father against son, brother against brother, relative against relative, friend against friend.
You mentioned in the blog the differences in the North (industrial) and the
South (agricultural). Has it changed?

So correct you are Simple your right on on this one and thats twice in a row. It amazes me that your a Plathra of useless information. Strebor named all the ones I knew cept Gettesburg then the March to the Sea by Sherman.
As far as the Fightens great season another record and now we find out How Great are pitching is, because good Pitching always stops good Hitting Baseball is Pitching and Defence then finding someway to get a run or two, but ya can't steal First base!So if are Pitchers get some support we should win it all Go Phillies.
Yeah, that Civil War was a disaster. I know someone wrote a novel depicting the state of the Union if The South Had Won The Civil War. I honestly don't think it was possible for the South to win that war.., sooner than later, the industrialization, the population, of the North, and the immigrants that were thrown right into battle would have prevailed.
A classic Phil The Thrill From Cherry Hill.. Gets me lost after a scrap run. My own fault, listening too him saying turn here turn there, there you go this is the right way.. I am on Rt. 130 heading North into Roebling from Trenton. The Ville and 206 are way South of Roebling, and not on 130.. Come to a light he yells you passed Columbus Rd. I said Columbus Rd. would take us out to 206 at Columbus, I'll go back.. He says take any of these roads. I ain't doing that, I am going back.. He stares straight ahead, now mind you, we have been lost like an hour. Now he is really staring straight ahead, and says to no one in particular. "If you go up you go down." I was waiting for the clinching line like, if you go up this street you come down on Rt. 206 or 541 or something.. Nothing, he says absolutely nothing..Just if you go up you come down.. Who the fuck was he talking too Sir Isacc Newton?? Phil The Trills Laws Of Gravity.. No wonder I'm nuts...
If you go North come Back South, Holy shit the North and South again I do belive thats what Phil the Thrill from Cherry Hill meant Simple.Intellectuals speak like that the Man has a Flare for the Obivious. I can tell by that Quote" If you go up you come down " very Profound it's like getting lost on an elevator pretty hard to do Simple.Smirks but you sure make life interesting.
Yeah, I am really happy that I make life interesting, when the main facet of my life is hanging with characters that make Damon Runyon and Jackie Gleason charcters look normal.. Good talking some history today. I have always found history to be an interesting subject. Scholars have been known too say, that if you don't learn from history you are doomed to repeat it, and in the history of mankind, there are many instances where this phrase rang more than true..No devils tonight. VODKADAY tomorrow. A trip to the Yunk over the weekend. All is good here at the Ville, we had our daily storm, and the critters went scurrying as usual. Haven't seen them. OOPS, spoke too soon. Hatoona Matada Simple. Hey Mere.. We hittin the rack Simple..Sure Mere. Hey Simple, I don't want to hear anymore scary stories about that old Jersey Devil. You got it Mere, but you do know that it is on nights like this. Mere, Mere.!! Sleepin Simple ZZZZZZZZZZZ. Goodnight Mere. Goodnight everybody.
