Happy Birthday America!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just want to say hello to the founding fathers. I shouldn't do this today, but this is Plain and Simple. I have a question for you guys. How do you like what these assholes than run our country have done too your well thought out doctrines, that gave birth to the greatest country on earth. You guys a little pissed. Hey Mr. Jefferson, remember less government, no taxes. Hate to tell you this today, but it is all government and all about taxes. Yep, they tax us sheople until they feel we just can't pay anymore. They run the schools, military, postal service, IRS, that is the fascist agency that collects our taxes, and dig this Tommy, if we can't pay they add on more in interest and penalty. Yep, the cities are already third world countries, they have our young men and women fighting overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. Yep, we go overseas and fight wars now. My wish for this fourth of July is, that you guys could come back, for a year, and straighten this shit out. Take us back to the principles that you founded this country on. I would love to see their faces as you and George, Thomas, Benjamin and the rest of the gang came banging into a congressional hearing. Tommy my man they would shit themselves. Happy B'Day America!!!!!!
Just a little remembrance of past July 4th celebrations. I hated getting up at 6:30am because we had to be at the boy's high school by 7:00am to wait around until 3 or 4 hours later,(St. J's was always last to march and the best part of the parade), to march from there to Rox. Ave. to Manayunk Ave. to Lyceum Ave. to Ridge Ave. back to Rox. Ave to the end where the Boyce baseball field is and where Rox. and Henry Aves. met and went no further. It was called going back the woods for St. J's picnic. We had our little tin cups around our necks with a red, white, blue ribbons for water from the water trucks. We would get a sandwich, a dixie cup (do you remember licking the lids to see what movie star was under the ice cream?) and a cold drink after marching. The families stayed back there all day just sitting around and talking. while the kids ran around. I liked the 4th better when I no longer had to march in the parade and could watch it. That parade lasted for up to 3 or 4 hours; today's parade last about 15 minutes. Oh how times have changed. Last time I was there was about 14 or 15 years ago when my granddaughter marched w/the girl scouts. I hated getting up that early but really enjoyed the rest of the day after the parade. St. J's had their picnic for a few years while my grandkids were there at the Rec. Just wasn't the same as being back the "woods". "Memories light the corners of my mind, misty water-colored memories of the "Way We Were". Sobs! but at least I can still remember.
I loved the 4th of July with the free birch beer and water trucks. I am still remote at cousin Franks. He just made me almost throw up. Told me he was driving a mobile home with a trailer on the back with a car on it down around the Rio Grande a few years back on a family vacation, when the border patrol pulled him over and locked him up because they thought he was a Mexican. You fuckin kidding me. The vodka shot out my nose. He does look a little Mexicanfied. Yeah Strebor 4th of July was fun. I remember one parade I was walking across Lyceum at Manayunk. Thought most of the parade was over when lo and behold one Davey Morris and Floyd Flaherty went galloping by me on horses. That was unfuckingbelievable.
Great stories........Remember all those little things that meant a lot at the time and more so now. Buying firecrackers with every dime you could scrape together back at the AA field. Now I hate the fireworks they drive my two dogs nuts, LOL but for the kids they are great. I am still trying to figure out why they made Lyceum Ave. the widest street in Roxborough. Damn I think it is wider than Henry Ave. I'm sure I will find out from the sages in the Ville. Anyway, have a good one.
Jim, don't know why Lyceum is the widest street in the Ville. I took both my kids there to start teaching them to drive because it was such a wide street. Then moved them onto Ridge Ave., etc. When they could drive up and down Green Lane and not make any mistakes, and could parallel park then I took them for their driving test. The ville is a good place to teach someone to drive. Wide, skinny, hilly, curvy, steep streets galore.
Rides thru the Ville on my tricycle with my red white and blue crepe paper around the tires and two flags on the handle Bars and baseball cards in the spokes drinking out of my tin cup with the red white & blue ribbon on it. Beeping my horn to the stars and stripes couldn't Find a Picnic anywhere checked out The Rox A.A. Field , the Knights and the Rec I was a One man Parade all day. Srugs and drives off..................the partyssssssssssssssss overrrrrrrrrrrrrr turn out the lightsssssssssssssssssssss
